| Abstract | A laboratory investigation for the sediment transportation in
alluvial channels was carried out in a recirculating rectangular flume at the Hydraulic Laboratory, Asian Institute of Technology. The flume was 72 ft long, 2 ft wide, 2% ft deep. The median diameter of the bed
material was 0.40 mm graded sand and its standard deviation was 1.35. The basic data of flume experiment by DARANANDANA (1962) were also analyzed in addition to the data collected by the author. Du Boy’s bed load equation with the emphasis on the critical shear stress was modified and used to compute the value of the total sediment discharge. The suspended bed material discharge obtained by the measurement was added in the Du Boy’s Equation. Methods used for the determination of the critical tractive force of the bed material sand were also presented. The critical shear stress obtained by various methods were introduced
in the calculation of the total sediment discharge. The computed value of the total sediment discharge were then plotted and compared with the
measuring results. |
