| Abstract | This investigation concerns the erosion of bed material under the leg of an offshore mobile jack-up rig leg due to vertical motions of the leg. The problem is envisaged as a scouring action by the flows which result from the leg oscillations. The results obtained from a simplified model are presented and an empirical equation to predict ultimate scour depths in the model is developed. The model results
indicate that catastrophic foundation failure is probable if vertical movements of a jack-up rig leg occur in response to wave action. |
