| Abstract | An investigation is made of the distribution of solid particles
in a fluid, produced by the continuous release of the solids at the surface of a body of still water. An analytic model is developed to describe the distribution of solids in the flow field. Empirical constants
required for the use of the model were obtained from knowledge of the solid and fluid properties, the geometry of the source of solid supply and the rate with which the solids entered the fluid. Experimental measurements were conducted where solids having different
specific gravities, shapes and rates of supply were discharged into a tank of still water. The measured distribution profiles were then compared to those predicted from the analytical model. |
