| Abstract | In this investigation conventional consolidated undrained triaxial tests with pore pressure measurements were carried out on undisturbed samples of stiff Bangkok clay taken from depths of 28 to 32 ft from the new AIT campus site at Rangsit. The testing program was divided into three series. The first and second series consisted of testing samples subjected to anisotropic consolidation (K = 0.8 and K = K = 0.72) while o in the third series the samples were subjected to isotropic consolidation (K = 1) prior to shear. Nonhomogeneity of the samples due to fissures was the main reason behind the scatter in some of the test results. It was found that deviations from normalized stress-strain behavior at low consolidation pressures indicated that the stiff Bangkok clay is overconsolidated. The value of the maximum past pressure was independent of the type of consolidation and lay in the range from 60 to 75 Ib/in2 The undrained shear strength as a function of consolidation pressure was found to be higher for the anisotropically consolidated samples. Moreover, anisotropic consolidation produced greater values of c and . The maximum obliquity ratio was found to increase by anisotropic consolidation while the pore pressure parameter, Af, was generally decreased by anisotropic consolidation as compared to isotropic consolidation. |
