| Abstract | This thesis examines how energy efficiency (EE) and operational optimization (OO) can improve Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance in an offshore gas production company in Vietnam (B Company), using its main offshore gas production project as an asset‑level case study. The research is motivated by the industry’s strong dependence on gas‑turbine for power generator and gas compressors during offshore production, which drives high carbon intensity, and by growing expectations for credible emissions reduction and transparent ESG reporting. A mixed‑methods approach is used to link operational performance with ESG outcomes. Quantitatively, the study compiles annual energy usage and emissions data from 2021 to 2025 and reconciles them with the company’s GHG inventory reports to build a consistent baseline and assess two main environmental performance indicators: an Energy Efficiency Indicator (EEI) and a CO₂ emission factor. Qualitatively, five semi‑structured interviews are analyzed to understand how measures are selected, implemented, and governed, and to explain the influencing factors behind observed performance trends. Triangulation ensures that the quantitative data show what changed, while the interviews clarify why and how it changed. The main contributions of this study are threefold. First, it provides a unified and auditable baseline linking energy consumption to emissions and ESG relevant indicators. Second, it offers a structured assessment of how combinations of EE and OO measures influence environmental performance (energy usage and emissions), operational reliability and safety, and governance processes such as monitoring, roles, and accountability. Third, it develops a prioritized improvement roadmap with a practical MRV framework suitable for offshore operational settings where high‑frequency data and financial details are limited. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of integrating engineering metrics with governance systems and workforce insights to support better decisions and drive credible, measurable ESG improvements in offshore gas operations. |
